Chesler Ortiz Wins in Michigan

July 21, 2010

Traverse City, MI --- Traverse City, MI is a fabulous vacation destination with packed beaches and an abundance of water sports including Jet skis, Para sailing, water skiing and boating of all types. The horse show is aptly named Horse Shows by the Bay. Wednesday of week one competition in the Grand Prix Ring, beautiful Flintfields Horse Park 2010 saw the Young Jumper Series come to an end. The Five-Year-Old, Six-Year-Old, and Seven & Eight-Year Old Young Jumpers completed their second day of competition the afternoon of July 15th, 2010 and were presented with top honours. Generously sponsoring the divisions were Captivate Farm, LLC, of Schoolcraft, Michigan.

Pierre Jolicoeur set today’s courses in the Grand Prix Ring with a track of twelve obstacles at the maximum heights for each division. The Five-Year-Old Young Jumpers were first to compete over a 4’ course with three entries making it to the jump-off. David Beisel and Ammeretto, owned by Equine Holdings LLC, were first to compete and put in double clear rounds with the fastest time to win the class. Katherine Heywood and Leonard’s Lyric jumped next, but had eight faults in the jump-off round to eventually finish third. Competing last in the class, Frankie Chesler Ortiz and Stevie Wonder, owned by Millcreek Stables, were able to jump clear over the short course which placed them in second.

Up next, the Six-Year-Old Young Jumpers had their qualifier over the same course moved up to 4’3”, this time Frankie Chesler Ortiz aboard Sher-Al Farm’s Masquerade had the win with the only double clear in the class. Laura Pfeiffer rode Imprimis to the second place ribbon after dropping one rail in the jump-off to finish with four faults.

“Masquerade is really special; I got him in Holland about a year and a half ago and he always comes out and does his best,” Chesler Ortiz smiled. “I am not actually signed up for the U.S. Young Horse classes because we are from Canada, but it would be nice to do. I think he would do really well.”

Chesler Ortiz is from Orangeville, ON Canada and runs Sher-Al Farm Canada Ltd. with her husband, Juan Ortiz. They show in Palm Beach during the winter, but usually spend the summers in Canada. The horses and riders of Sher-Al Farm Canada Ltd. will be in Traverse City for the first two weeks of the show and are already enjoying themselves “We do not usually travel much in the summer.” Chesler Ortiz stated. “This is the first time we have tried this and I am glad we came here.”

Frankie also trains and has several students that have been doing very well at Horse Shows by the Bay. Along with training her students, Chesler Ortiz has several young horses to compete and plans on showing in the upcoming Welcome Prix and Grand Prix this weekend.

Earlier in the week Chesler Ortiz placed 2nd with Stevie Wonder in the 5 Year-Old-Young-Jumper class and won with Masquerade in the 6 Year-Old-Young-Jumper class. Chesler Ortiz also went on to place 2nd in the 1.35 metre class and 12th in Grand Prix with only one rail down aboard Sher-Al Farms Aslan. This was Aslan’s first Grand Prix and Frankie was very pleased with his performance and results.
