Mimi Tashjian Guides Capital Blue to the Championship in the Camping World Adult Amateur 51 & Older Hunters

Wellington, FL --- The second week of the 2010 FTI Winter Equestrian Festival continued today as more hunter championships were awarded in the E.R. Mische Grand Hunter Arena.

Mimi Tashjian and Capital Blue continued their two-week winning streak today when they picked up the championship in section A of the Camping World Adult Amateur Hunter 51 & Over division. Tashjian has only competed twice on Capital Blue, owned by Scott Stewart, and has earned the championship both times.

Capital Blue is a 6-year-old gelding that Tashjian's trainers Scott Stewart and Ken Berkley recently imported to America, so this is his first season at the FTI Winter Equestrian Festival. Tashjian and her trainer of 15 years, Scott Stewart, share the ride on Capital Blue, whom Stewart shows in the Pre-Green Hunters as well.

Tashjian, who is in the process of moving to Wellington, currently resides in Greenwich, CT, so she must commute to Florida weekly to compete. Tashjian is very thankful to have the ride on Capital Blue whom she says "has a very great heart, is very uncomplicated, and very comfortable." "He is just a lovely horse, especially for as inexperienced as he is," she continued.

Capital Blue is very kind hearted both in and out of the show ring. "He has a great personality, and he's very sweet. He looks for peppermints the minute he sees you coming," Tashjian smiled.

Today's courses in the E.R. Mische Grand Hunter Field, set by well-known course designer Phillip DeVita, were demanding for the competitors. The course, which included a bending line going away from the in-gate, "was a little bit of a challenge," acknowledged Tashjian.

The bending line did not faze Tashjian and Capital Blue, who received scores of 85 in both rounds over fences today. The duo won both over fences classes today, as well as a second place over fences yesterday, to claim the championship. The reserve champion was awarded to Glen Senk and Winter's Tale, owned by Fashion Farm. Senk and the flashy grey won the second class over fences yesterday, as well as the under saddle today.

Tashjian will continue to compete as much as possible through the remaining weeks of the FTI Winter Equestrian Festival, and she hopes to keep up her winning streak. "I hope to keep doing as well as I did today, but I'm just going to try my hardest and try to make my horse proud," she commented.

The FTI Winter Equestrian Festival continues tomorrow with final classes for the junior hunter divisions and more.

The 2010 FTI Winter Equestrian Festival has 12 weeks of top competition running from January 13 through April 4.
