Olympic Hopeful Will Simpson will Return to HITS Thermal to Compete

in the $200,000 Invitational Grand Prix of the Desert

March 6, 2008

Thermal, CA --- HITS is pleased to announce that Will Simpson has accepted an invitation to compete in the $200,000 Invitational Grand Prix of the Desert on Sunday, March 16 at HITS Thermal.

The top 30 pairs based on Grand Prix prize money won during the 2008 HITS Desert Circuit will be invited to compete in the class. The Invitational Show Committee may, at its discretion elect to award up to four additional invitations to riders not otherwise qualified for the class. Simpson is the first rider to receive such an invitation.

"I couldn't have been more excited to get the call from Dale Harvey inviting me to compete in the class," said Simpson. "I have heard tremendous things about the show this year and I can't wait to return to Thermal."

"Based on Will's recent accomplishments we extended him an invitation," said HITS' High-Performance Liaison Dale Harvey. "He had been a fixture at the HITS Desert Circuit for a long time and we are thrilled to have him back."

Simpson has won two-out-of-three 2008 Olympic Games trials in Wellington, Florida. Simpson is undecided on which horse he will ride for the Invitational but is leaning towards El Campeon's Tosca. Simpson and El Campeon's Tosca won the $30,000 Ariat Grand Prix during DC II last year.

"Will has an excellent shot at going to the Olympics this year," added Harvey. "He has made a real statement for all of the riders on the West Coast. We should all be proud of him"

"Bring him on," joked Grand Prix rider Guy Thomas. "I guess we are going to see if we can out run him."

Currently, Joie Gatlin and Camaron Hills Shan Roe sit on top of the mountain in the standings. Click here for the complete $200,000 Invitational Grand Prix of the Desert Leader Board.

The Invitational is the crown jewel of the new Desert Circuit Championship that will close out the season with 17 different championship classes, including the R.W. Mutch Equitation Classic and the $10,000 ASG Software Solutions/USHJA International Hunter Derby Classic.
